Can some of you post what speakers you're using with the TK2050 family? I'm curious about how well the Sure and other boards work with a range of speakers: low vs high efficiency, speaker type (horns, planar, etc.), and other parameters that might warrant attention.
I've had great success with Klipsch Heresy's and BK-16 back-loaded horns with Fostex FE166E drivers. |

I bought 1 year ago extra for the Tripath amps a Fostex 167E fullranges - built like the original manufacturers design suggestion in a basreflex cabinet.
For the really weak Tripaths it seemed optimal and very good match with the more smooth Trends for example. For a Fostex which usually has his weak point in the too loud and a bit harsh mids - especially when listening loud it could be a good partner. The TK2050´s no matter if the sure-board or that one from hifimedy (great amp) goes also right with my Fostex but I found the bass response too flat and dry. These Fostex could be a better match with weak pure SETs (2 x 8 watts or similar). They need a bit distortion I think while the TK 2050s are more powerful and tight in bass response. Even with a pair of Revel F12 nominal 6 ohm (falls down to 3 ohms) I got great results - it´s unbelivable. With the right high current SMPS the TK2050s need a stands speaker (minimum 88 dB) I think. I should notify that I changed the Fostex cabinets placement in the room and in other position they could play better. I also found that the Fostex need very long warm up to reach usually performance. Especially when you disconnected them for a month or so. |

They need high output impedance amps too I was told which seemed nonsense to me. I heard a FE167E design one week ago and it was disappointing for me. They do some things very good and some things no good at all. One really has to get used to the peculiarities of such speakers ! I know I can't like speakers that need distortion..

Interesting so far. Any Magnepan users? I'm thinking about biamping and active crossovers if need be.

I imagine the '166 sounds quite a bit different from the '167, but I listen to mine in the bedroom. The Heresy's are my main speakers. I'm itching to go back to Maggies. I used to own MMG's, which had the best midrange I've ever enjoyed. Since I'm now using an Accuphase C200 preamp and about to take delivery of one of hifimediy's amps, it seems I'm going for s/s clarity.
![]() Been listening to a Magnavox 6V6 8802 tube amp lately, and I like it a lot, but for me it's Tripath all the way . . . |

I've run the TK2050 chips on my Altec A5 rig. Works well.

These light mass fullranges (5 - 8 gramms per cone) are usually combined with tube amps ... this is my observation. Maybe I am wrong. I agree full. They also tend to shrill in the mids at higher vol. level. Extreme present mids. I listended also to a pair hemp acoustics fullrange in the past. If I remember right these were much more smooth and mellow sounding. |
