Question Arcam A85 + P85 combo versus 2 x HifimedyTK2050 board based amps for bi-amp?

Hello to all you knowledgeable people!

I must congratulate you all on a thoroughly interesting and informative site.
I have only recently started reading through some of the past threads and I must admit it has certainly got a few neurons firing in the old grey matter!

I come from a mainly pro audio background (head of R&D for a new company designing High quality pro audio system). I have a very good acoustic background but am finding it refreshing to look more at the electronics side of things.

Any way!! I have actually ordered 5 of the TK2050 boards designed by HiFimedy for a small active portable system I am designing as a side project for a friend. The more I read reviews about the tripath chip amps the more I am interested in getting some for myself for home use.

Has anybody hear had experience of both the Arcam A85 / P85 as well as these current 2050 based chip amps? I am very interested in any comparisons(Obviously I would listen to any amp with my system before making the decision)! Would they be an upgrade/downgrade or just different?

I would be using them to bi-amp my current system mains which are
custom designed of course based on the 1 x Volt bm220 8r (88.5db) and
1 x Morel MDT 30S in a 28ltr enclosure tuned to 41hz.

I have good experience with the sound of Class D amps (although on a much larger scale)! We use Lab Gruppen FP+series amps for our pa systems. We have also tested many others (some good, some terrible).

Any way i look forward to getting involved in the discussion here.

Kind regards

Tim

Hi All,

Maybe a a too specific comparison?
How about has anyone got experience or views on the quality difference between the
Arcam amps and any tripath 2050 based (for that matter 2024, 2022 or even 2020 chips) for instance the Sure 2 and 4 channel models?

Kind Regards

Tim

Hi, SOSx.
I'm the designer of my TK2050 boards. About the application of amplifier boards, I think you want to find the most Suited, not the Best. TK2050 as a example, there are different version you can choose, AC /DC powered, with/without speaker protection, with/without Pot, for 8ohm/4ohm, normal/parallel circuit, and so on. There are also different power-stage chip used on board you have to consider, and PCB size, component height as well.
thanks.
