Default Class D rail voltage mod?

I have a class D car amplifier that delivers maximum power into 1 ohm. I'm using a 3 ohm speaker with it. I'm curious about possibly modding this amp to deliver maximal power into the 3 ohm load. Or, at least more power into the 3 ohm load. I know a fair amount about class B amps, but class D is a little more mysterious to me.

Anyway, assuming I get a good handle on the SOA of the output devices, what would be involved? If it was a typical class B amp, I'd try to step up the rails by increasing the duty cycle of the switcher (if the switching transistors could handle it) and replacing some of the components (eg. caps) on the secondary side to accommodate the higher voltage. Would class D modification be essentially the same?

BTW, this is a relatively cheap amplifier and so if I screwed something up it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Disclaimer: Just a newb responding until a pro steps in.

Assuming all the components (FETs, drivers, caps, etc.) can handle a rail increase, you will need to find out if the amplifier has under/over voltage protection that will need to be adjusted. You will also need to do the same thing with the current limiting (by lowering it). The amplifier feedback might also need adjusting, but I'm stretching my newb knowledge thin with this one.
