Default Noob here, quick question

Ok so my mom just bought a white van speaker.... i know w/e...
it says 8 ohm on it (its the mts one)...
i figured for a **** speaker i would get a **** amp...
so i got the lepai ta2020 on ebay.

Basically, would these 2 work together?
And since I have a 2 channel amp with one speaker, how should I set it up?

I know some stuff about electronics but know nothing about speakers, so I could really use some help.

thanks

Hi,
I'm not sure to understand your problem!
You want to connect one speaker on a stereo amplifier?

OK It's easy. You have to connect your speaker between the two + of the amp, the two minus are not connected. The two inputs must be feed by the same signal but out of phase (180°). You can do this by mean of symetrical transformer

The best thing to do is to get another speaker and run one on each channel.
Option 2 is to just hook up the speaker and drive the input with your signal source. Only thing is you need to figure out what channel that is. So if you put the signal into the left channel then you need to hook up the speaker to the left speaker out. I don't really like having the other channel powered up and just sitting, there but as long as there in no signal going into the (in this case right channel) you almost certainly won't damage anything. You could even y cord the L+R signals and put them into just the left channel where the speaker is hooked up and hear both the L+R out one channel. Then there is bridged mode, but let's try the other options first.

Yea JeJ is talking about "bridged" mode and not all amps are made to do that.
Got a manual, or instructions with that thing?

Wont work if the source is stereo, you will get either two voltages in phase or two very different signals on the + connections.

You need a bridging amplifer to do that.

well its coming from china, so i dont have it yet, but when i searched (before making this thread) i'm pretty sure they said the ta2020 chip is not bridgeable...
Right now my plans for when I get it is to use a mono aux plug when I connect my ipod. But I was hoping I could do something with the other channel.

thanks for the responses also.

Is this going to be in the car? No worry, there is a way to get tunes with what you have. Come back to this thread, and somebody will help you work it out. Rock on!

and the amp i posted up before. No, it will not be used in a car.
I plan on screwing (or doublestick taping) the amp to the top of the speaker and just using it as an ipod speaker in my apt @ college.
