Audioengine A2/A5 vs TA2024

I am looking for a PC desktop audio solution for a long time.
Concerning the price/sound quality factor, what would be the best option:?

- the comercial Audioengine A2 or A5
- or a DIY project with a TA2024 and some DIY sepaekers

Go for the DIY project! I had the Audioengine A5 but could not stand the canned sound of these commercial speakers, now I have a tripath 2020 and a homebuild set of tabaque quarter wave speakers, MUCH better!

I have lots of other stuff but I find myself listening to this combo all the time, it is very clean and neutral sounding and never tires, I can highly recommend it.

Those are not bookshelf speakers. I am looking for small speakers to put on top of a table as normal PC desktop speakers.

I know the larger designs are much better, but now that is what I need. I will be listening at 60/70 cm from them. I work all day with a computer as a programmer and enjoy very much good sound quality.


Have you a suggestion? (I would like to have the better bass response possible)

2024 is better value

the tripath amp is far better value every time, they are extremly cheap now and get a set of mordaunt short ms10i from ebay for around £30-£40. then you will have a budget real hifi set up.

it doesnt look as good but it will sound better.
