Hey again

Now i got my NCDXi-627 modules and have mounted them in the cabinet i earlier used with my NCD1 modules.

The old setup (NCD1):

The new setup (NCDXi-627):

The first thing i noticed, was that the new modules isn't running as hot as the "old" NCD1 modules did - Nice (-:

Now i will use some time to listen to my new modules and write a little about my opinion about the sound some time in the near future.......

You are very welcome to write comments to my Class-D DIY amplifier.

Regards

MrForce

Mr Force,

Very very neat layout, both visualy and technically. I'm doing something very similiar. I've been waiting with great anticipation about your thoughts on the sound though. It wil be a very true test as well since everthing remained the same; only the modules changed. I have a NCD4 and are contemplating weather to get the NCDX627i or not.

So, what does is sound like? I know it is still early days, but the suspense is killing me!

Hey soundworx (and other.....!)

I have been playing music on my new NCDXi-627 modules in a littel over a week now, and will give a couple of words about the sound - specialy compared to my "old" NCD1's.

I can say, that they do indeed sound better, the sound is generally more relaxed and warm - well this is when the modules have been used in minimum a couple of days and when they are warmed up!

At first when i switched the amplifier on for the first time, they sounded, what i would call awful ! - Hard and "unfrendly" to the ear - I was very near to removing them and returning them to the dealer. But I gave them a chance and i must say, that it is important to do so, because they realy change there sound performance as they "burn-in".
It is still (after about 50 hours of power-on) important that they are warmed up to give the best sound. When they are switched on from cold they can still be a little hard sounding, but nothing like when i switched them on for the first time, and maybe it gets better with time........ ??

I have been talking to Lars Clausen about a problem regarding the modules together with my preamp (Denon DAP 2500). When they are connected there are much of white background-noise, this I have resolved with a 10K ohm resistor in serial connection with the line signal.

My first conclusion: They do sound a great deal better than my old NCD1's - but it is VERY important that they are warmed up to give a good performance !

Hi MrForce,

Thanks for the update. More warmth in the class D designs would always be welcome, however, it didn't go soft on us now did it? How does it compare in terms of dynamics and "snap" (for a lack of a better word).

Regards

Jaco

Hi Guys,

I am in contact with Lars to order my firs NCDXi modules to drive a pair of AVALON Opus Ceramique Clones... I am the owner of a Panasonic SA-XR55 Digital Amplifier right now it sounds quite decent cost considered...
I am awaitng my cabinets soon, and will be ready to order from Lars, I am going to use a eAR PRE TWO from Acoustic Reality as Pre Amp , I will post pictures when build... I´m in cue for a Buffalo DAC from Twisted Pear Audio, it uses the ESS Sabre 32 chip.... I hope That Lars will advise me regarding possible upgrades recommended by u guys...
