Audiom | 100-W audio amp is 20 times more efficient than Class D chips

100w peak from 1.5v supply?
i thought this was october ... (vs. april) mlloyd1 |
20 times more efficient? Gee, worst-case class-D is 70% efficient, so this thing must be 1400% efficient! Call the Nobel Prize committee, we've discovered the secret of endless power!
That's what happens when you let the marketing pukes put out a press release before the engineers fact-check it. |

someone should tell them that they haven't released a title with high peak-to-average-power ratio in almost 30years. |
I'll wait for the one powered by interstellar ether.

Is it hybrid or pure digital? Not that it matters as it appears to be vaporware and not smugware...

No, I think it's a real chip. From what I can gather it's a class D driver chip with an on-board look-ahead SMPS. The SMPS steps up the 1.5V to whatever rails are needed by the class D amp to output the signal and then the class D drivers have their losses minimized by only switching the voltage needed (rather than required full power rails) and also due to longer on-times. All the power devices are off chip. This is just a controller.
I'm sure it's really good for a wristwatch boom box but that 100W spec has some very specific conditions on it. It sure as hell ain't gonna run no 15" subwoofer off a AA battery.;) |
They could increase the voltage out with a switching reg type cct (isnt this what class D is) (12v car amps can put out 1000w) but which pin is the 100amps going thru?

That's a LIE, or, maybe they have discovered, new phisic laws... |
You must read more carefully. The chip goes on 1.5 volts but the power transistors will have more.
