High efficiency 5 1/4" sub for T-Class amp

HI,

Total newbie here with stupid ideas. The first of which is, I want to build a T-Class stereo set up for my car. Due to space limitations, .23 cf under seat. I need a small but efficient sub to help round out the bottom(not rattle the windows).

Tangband makes a 5 1/4" a sub that will go in a small box with sensitivity 1w/1m of 86db.

Is that efficient enough for these amps?

I don't know if it's enough but it's certainly pretty much as high as you can get. I even think the Tangband figures might be slightly exaggerated because it hardly seems physically possible with that efficiency in the subrange with that size driver.

You might also want to look at a driver from Elemental Designs. They have a 6.5" sub (http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...products_id=33) that sounds like it would meet your needs and is on clearance sale (~$40 ea). A little more cone area, a longer Xmax, a LOT lower Fs and roughly the same efficiency.

OK, maybe some trial and error is in order. I think I'll go with the TB because it has a 7.13L Vas and claims excellent efficiency.

I can't fit 6.5" drive in the space available. So, that's out.

I think I will just try one of the T-amp boards and see what happens. They are cheap enough to afford a little experimentation.

Plus, if I am not mistaken, car batteries offer a lot of amperage, so it might work out OK if I am lucky.

I am dropping this project for now in favor of a desktop hifi project.

Using Arjens Tube Buffer preamp with the Mark III Tripath TA2020(just ordered them!)

I'll have plenty of questions coming soon for that. It's nice to know there is such a knowledgeable community here.
