Default Help with AMP10

Hi guys and girls.
I have recently been initiated in the DIY world and am very excited to be completing my first diy audio project at 42 years of age. Hardly a spring chicken but very eager to make up for lost time.

I have posted a ton of questions on the 41hz audio board about my AMP10 build. It's completed. The power supply is hooked up on the bench but I'm having difficulties.

One of the pads on one of the capacitators has come off. I tried to just add more solder but of course it doesn't stick.

One channel doesn't work. I think that is because this pad isn't making contact. The other caps on that side of the board aren't charging.

In an abundance of caution for my first project I am feeding the antek an-3222 trafo with a variac. One side of the primary has a 100 watt light bulb and the other side of the primary has a 3 watt automotive fuse in it.

When I turn on the trafo using the switch with the rheostat on the variac full on, I get a flash from the bulb. Then it goes out.

The amp comes on (one channel) and plays for a few seconds before muting (red led on). The it unmutes (red led off) and plays for a few more seconds. It continues to do this.

I'm not sure if I have one problem or two.

Do I need to put a jumper in there somewhere to the leg of the capacitator with the ruined pad? Is there anything else that can be causing the amp to cycle?

I tried using automotive fuses on my Krell clone PS and they immediately blew. I don't remember if they were fast blow, but they were worthless in the application.

I eventually put in real fuses (and the correct ones) and they worked out fine.

Are your voltage rails putting out the correct voltage?

Thank you for your reply.
I have the correct voltages. I am not blowing fuses but thanks for sharing your experience. It's good to know I'm not the only one who makes mistakes.

Luka, thanks for keeping me entertained with your posts. While I may not be the best reader, your writing keeps me laughing.

How many people are in Ljubljana? Are you entering any teams in the olympics? Do they have an event for cranks?

I dont "replay" with anyone who has hotmail either.

The amplifier is fixed. A good scrubbing with contact cleaner and pressurized air was it's first treatment. Then I went over and resoldered everything so they looked better. Then I scrubbed it again.

Then I hooked everything up and ...music happened.

You can check out a slide show and a short video on my website at www.emergencydpt.com

Thanks!
