PSU for Hypex Amp? Switching or Transforner???

A couple of my friends are building Hypex UCD Amps. They are using Transformers.

Is there any benefit?

Shouldn't they be using Switch Mode PSUs????

No, not necessary! All combination of switching/"analog" amps and psu can work. They all have good and bad sides.

SMPS and switching amps will probably be the winner in the future but I'm not completely sure.

SMPS + analog amp is my favorite right now. (Linn Klimax Solo)

edit: Hypex is soon comming with a SMPS that probably will be a good match to the Hypex amps.
