Default DIY solar powered boombox

For those who want to keep themselves entertained when in a park, without spending a lot on expensive batteries that arenít just difficult to carry but harm the environment as well, Instructables has a great DIY that allows you to create a boombox by spending not more than $75 on it.

The DIY boombox is based on the use of cheap speakers, a small battery for storing solar electricity, a PMP, a small amp and above all a 1.5W solar panel. Head over to Instructables for the complete DIY instructions.

It's intriguing, but why would you run an inverter to go DC-AC-DC again if we're talking about an amplifier? Second, it's a lot of money to supply what remains a very limited amount of electricity (enough to run a laptop for 3 hours). You'd have to be completely off the grid for it to make economic sense at this point.

You could also DIY something far better suited for this use for far less money.
