Ok, carlos... I know what you meant... And what I said was just repeated again by erskine.

The 138, 228, 338 are ALL THE SAME device, just with different operating temperature ranges. Think: 138=Commercial 338=Military

Again, the design exists that way because NO mainstream manufacturer ever made a High Current 3-pin Negative voltage regulator.
