Thats the question im asking my self - I had a 3875 along with some JBL control ones for a nice weekend in a summerhouse, where one of the first albums from an austrailian rock group heated up the case considerly. I noticed when one channel clearly was distorting audible. I turned it down, and it disserpered. When cranked up again short after, it was not long before it came again. Then a loud buzzing sound, and I flipped the switch. Now at home, I measure negative rail voltage (-26 volts) on the output - and the positive capacitor on the faulty channel does not decharge, when the power is shut off - as if the chip does not drain its positive rail - can it really be toasted ?
I thought it was protected from all sorts of overload ??

Cheers !
Hans
