Hi experts! Extreme noob Carcano here with my first post!

Im a guitar player, and want to build a low-watt power chip amp based on the LM380. I have the chip already, along with a Jensen 8ohm 8" speaker and a 12 volt power supply - thats it so far.

Of course I haven't got a clue what I'm doing, except I'm good with a soldering iron, and am willing to spend whatever time and money is necessary to build what I have in mind...if its possible???

I dont even know if the LM380 will distort. What would be ideal is to get a good clean sound up to 'loud talking' volumes, and then have it gradually distort into the 'shouting' range...4 watts max. Even better if it ONLY distorted in the higher freqs, as this would give it a more spongy feel like power tube distortion.

What I need right now is to study a 'how to' web resource on simple circuit building. Can anyone here direct me to such a site...links???
Thanks so much!

Heres a simple LM380 circuit I found rummageing around in the archives.
Would this work as a low-watt guitar amp? The input from an electric guitar is anywhere from zero to one volt, and I dont know if this is enough to power an amp like this into distortion. I dont want to include a volume or tone control in the circuit as I already have this on the guitar.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
