I wonder what kind of amp to use to drive the tweeters only in an all active 2-way setup ?
Speakers are Jim Griffins MiniMonitors (Jordan JX92s / Aurum Cantus G2Si crossed at 3 kHz with 18 db/oct.) For the lower octave I use a pair of MyRef Rev C monos, xover is a heavily modified Behringer DCX2496. What would you do - just use another amp that comes along ? |

Talking about tweeters in active filtered set ups, I've read about a French guy pluging his Fostex FT66 straight, in his active filter, you read good... no amplifier!
I've not tested it yet, especially because my DCX is broken right now, but I'll definitely give it a try. Apparently you need high sensitivity tweeters (>100db) to achieve a convenient sound pressure level. Alternatively, I'd add another amp of the same manufacturer. Bye |

Nice suggestion, but I´m not sure if a tweeter with 6 ohms nominal impedance is an adequate load for an opamp.

Hi,
6ohm is too low even for a line driver designed to push big current into a pair of 50ohm terminated coax. |
