I am building a project running a puredata sound program on a mac mini- the outputs are connected via firewire to the eight channels out on a presonus firepod. The speakers I am using are small: 1W 8ohm, and I need to build compact amps for each speaker. Can anyone suggest some designs? I know very little about amp design.
Thanks Greg |

National Semiconductor has a ton (and I mean ton) of 1W/8ohm parts (their Boomer line) that run from 5V. You can simply use 3xAA batteries or even 4xAA if NiMH and run them from a little battery holder. They even have parts in the old SOIC package so you can easily put the sucker on a bread board and test it out first or use a socket. Just do a search there and you'll find all you ever wanted. I think they might get as high as 3W for a 4 ohm load but that is probably a 10% THD+N number so not really useable. Might want to check them out.
