Default Sonic Impact t-amp clone

I bought an SI 5066 as a gift back at Christmas.

With free shipping at Buy.com it was a good deal
at $26.

These days they are about $10 more with shipping
and not being on special promotion

Has anyone seen a t-amp knockoff that is even less
in some other market?

The simplicity of the unit leads me to think that
a clone would market under $20 if made in volume.

www.41hz.com has various DIY boards based on the Tripath
chips. They arent cheaper than the $29 special, but they are under $100. Furthermore, because you get all the parts, you save on the unit quantity 1 plus myriad shipping costs from getting the parts from vendors.

The parts are better. Plus you get total control over the aeshetics be it a 1U rack chassis or somethingyou make in the woodshop.

To be fair, with the quality of the pot, connectors & case, the SI5066 is 'a T-amp knock-off'.

If it were easy to add headphones I guess the chip would appear in some computer speakers, which seem to get to the bottom of the amp market price-wise.
