I just wonder if LM4732 from NS is the simplified version of LM4780?

I ask this because I know in the IC industry, it is common practice to bin the raw material after test according to the performance of each unit. I wonder LM4732 and LM4780 have the same die and the only difference is LM4732 just has some defective circuitry/ transistor but it still can work.

Given that the LM4732 has the same pinout as the LM4780 (implying the internal chip layout is similar, being two LMP3886AT silicon dice), and the specs are almost identical except for the output power, these is a good chance the LM4732 is just a LM4780 which failed the LM4780 test specs.

I compare LM4780, 3886, 3875, 1875 on my web pages at
http://home.pacific.net.au/~gnb/audio/lmcomp.html

the 4732 was released several months prior to the 4780. i know this for certain as i when i sampled a couple of 4732's they were the highest power output devices National offered.

that would got to say then that the 4732 is not a simplfied 4780 or 4780 reject. well, not initially at least.
