Default Can't control volume - Sonic Impact T

Hi there,

Slightly late to the party I decided to purchase a sonic impact t to try myself.

I have been running it on AAs through the week waiting for a power supply to arrive. I have got a 12v 5A switching adaptor for it.

However, when i tried it the amp just starts playing quite loud at one fixed volume. Its sounds great but obviousley the neighbours aren't gonna appreciate this at 11pm :-) Yesterday the volume tailed off after a while and then the volume control worked. But left it switched off and now the problem has returned.

Any ideas what is causing this? Am i doing somthing wrong?

The source is a DVD player that i'm mainly playing mp3s on and the speakers are KEF Cresta 10s.

Any ideas much appreciated.
Paul

Hi

It seems like the volume control pot is bypassed somehow, but
for you to troubleshoot it you have at least to disassemble the
case. It is possible that you've got a cold solder joint in the
volume control or this joint is broken or the wires are together
in such a way that the sound comes directly to the outputs.
Give it a try, if you see some wires hunging or disatached
from the respective joints that might be your problem.

BTW in order for you to disassemble the case unglue the rubber feet and unscrew the screws that are unnerneath and hold it. Otherwise you won't be able to see the connections on the volume control.

Good luck

If it is a new one I would return it and get another one. These SI T-amps have problems with production quality. I had problems with the first one too and exchanged it for a better one. One of the speaker clips has fallen off this one but that is something I was able to fix myself.

But once you get your hands on a good one it will be well worth the hassle. They are all what they are made out to be sound-wise.

Thanks for the swift replies guys. I took the bottom cover off today and found that all the wires were connected to the volume control circuit board OK. The wires were all twisted round eachother however. I untangled it and put it back together.

It is working OK now... which suprised me.
I will see what happens. I would like to re-case it at some stage.
