Start with a kit version like this one but you'll find the power supply will cost more than the amplifiers. Or this TDA2005 stereo kit will run from a cheaper 12V power block adaptor.

This would be your best bet. Components probaly cost about £5 but you would need something to build it on. I would recomend getting a breadboard and some singe core wire (£5).

The power supply would be the most costly part but using 12vdc adaptors that you can get quite cheap would be ok.

The sound quality from this simple amplfier is suprisingly good.

I think with a bit of scrounging it would be posible to build this for about £20 or maybe a bit less. It depends mainly on the power supply.

If you want to make this amplfier more powerfull you could get opamps that have max supply voltage of 22v and you could also bridge the amp into 4 ohms.

Doing this would make it run at about 200w for about 1 second (untill you get fireworks) provided that the power supply is sufficient.
P = (2 x 20 x 2/\-0.5)² / 4

If you dont understand the circuit diagram i suggest you read up on the internet:
OP-amps - Non inverting and inverting (negative feedback)
Transistors
Ohms Law

Good Luck!

Heheheh !

TRY TDA2822

Tooooo simple, and you can power it from four (in the truth, from two to eight) Alcaline (or not eheheh) AA bateries !

And it is STEREO !

You can also try TA8238, plays well, and can be powered from a very cheap 12v supply!

You can find datasheets at www.datasheetcatalog.com
Datasheets contain all the information that you need ! Including the schematics, and some, the PCBs layout. If you don't find the PCB layout, use your creativity (it don't cost anything) and draw your own !

Oh, NO PCB!? Okay, turn on the PIG MODE and build it P2P HUAhuauAH! If you do it with a lot of care (and NOT running agaist the time), it will work, and the only cost that you will have will be the parts !

Hi,
I think the best for a beginner would be something like TDA2030 , TDA2050 , or better LM1875.They are easy to build , cheap , and have protection.
You will need dual power supply for these.
Powering from batteries is not the cheapest solution , because batteries need often replacement .

Regards,
Lukas.
