I'm going for a pair of active speakers. The mid-bass amp is all sorted out (PA150, 3xLM3886 in parallel, PCB ammended by Eva; thanks again
).The question now is: what chip-amp (or even discrete solid-state) sounds best for a pair of tweeters??? (I'm gunning for a pair of Seas 27TDFC's) |

How about "classic" lm3875 gainclone. with low cap (1000uf or even less) psu or even regulated. often the low cap supply is quoted as having "sweeter highs".
great thing about diy is you can change it if you dont like it and thats an easy amp to build. |

Is the 3875 my best (and only) bet?

no its just a suggestion. there are many many different kinds of amps out there!
perhaps you want a tube amp driving just the tweeters and a class D for mid/bass. its entirely up to you

Hi,
You can probablyuse lower power amp for a tweeter , because there is little power at high frequencies.I think that LM1875 would do just fine. |

The OPA548 has a slightly less laid back sound in my experience. Whatever chip you use, go for the inverted design, it has a much nicer top end.

I'd perhaps even go for the lm1875.
a 5 legged device at 20W, a joy to work with, and wont take much space at all. sounds as well as the other lm's i'v tried. |

Sure tweeter amps don't need migh RMS power. But quite high peak power output capability wouldn't hurt either. Otherwise your amp could clip at transients.
