transformer question

I am planning on building a 3886 gainclone. I found a transformer I think may work. It came out of a phillips integrated system with a cd player, tpe deck and tuner. The amp was rated at 100 x 2 The transformer while hooked up in the unit measured abou 45 vac from each side to the center tap. Does this sound like it will work?

Maximum voltage for LM3886 is 2x42Vdc

After rectifying with diodes and capacitors the DC voltage is 1.414 * AC voltage. In your case you would get around 2x 65V, which would destroy your chips

You need transformer with voltage 2x28V or less. I think the best choice is 2x24V

how about if I paralleled the secondaries and didnt have a center tap? can this be done with briangt or peterdaniels power supply boards? This would give me 45vac total.

hi this would work, only if u convert your amp module to work of a single supply rail. The best option would be to buy a rated transformer at 2x24V and use the 2x45 vac transformer for a future high power amp project
