Default Chill-amp II page

Hi DIY folks,

After quite some delay I am happy to announce that the Chill-amp II page is finished now...
This is the second reincarnation of the Chill-amp non-inverted gainclone concept.

You can find it here:
http://jwg.student.utwente.nl/fedde/chill-amp2.html

Have fun!

Fedde

Maybe I didn't dare to visit Diyaudio before my page was finally finished?

Thanks for your positive feedback! Well, the difference is maybe that I am not a student anymore. Now I have a 40(+) hour working week But still... I have a lot fun and I earn more money to fund my DIY projects...
(e.g. I could finally buy a pair of nice Supravoxes!)

Cheers,

Fedde

Fedde

you always make the most wonderful webpages
so, I really would not need to go have a look to see
but I did it anyway

exellent web work!
as usual
would be a joy if all webmasters made pages
that was easy to understand and to read

I can really recommend a visit!

PS.
I have bookmarked Chill-Amp II Building Guide
A perfect link for all new Chip Amp builders.

Hi Fedde,

nice work:-) So the main difference is just two diodes and not four per rail? Does it make much difference or is it very subtle. Maybe its time for more gaincloning.
BTW I really like your cases, where can I get these from?

Chill Amp I -> Chill Amp II
Is the difference only two diodes in power supply?

There has got to be more.
Maybe the difference is in the hardware.
The way the practical construction is put together ....

You know, you can build two very different amplifiers
from the same schematic!

Hi there,

It seems there are minor changes between the Chill-amp I and II, but they result in a big change of sound. Here's a list of differences:
- I use different transformers. Both a different voltage (lower than the Chillamp I) and type/brand.
- The supply is different, only two diodes per rail. Also, these diodes are parallel. With the old schematic, the current always has to pass two diodes per rail!
- The stepped attenuator is different. This changes the sound a lot compared to a potmeter (especially a cheaper one).
- I use a 680 Riken ohm resistor (I forgot to mention that). Well, I am still experimenting with resistors so...
- A different input capacitor.
- 1 uF supply decoupling
- The housing is different.

To me that are enough changes to call it a second version. Don't forget that with such minimalist circuits the difference in sound can be high when you only change a single cap or resistor!

The cases are from conrad: http://www.conrad.com

Ciao,

Fedde
