I have three gainclones at the moment; all LM3875; all non-inverted;no input cap;no Ci cap;all minimalistic design.
Each of them has it's significant sound.
1. +-27V PS (toroid trafo and double bridge with MUR860) and 1000uF PS caps at chip pins
2.SMPS computer PS (+-12V) and 220uF on LM3875
3.+-18V regulated suply (LM338) and 220uF on LM3875
Just for fun I've put Ci cap on 3. gainclone to see, how much this mess the sound.First Philips 47uF caps, then bypassed with different caps (MKT,MKP,MKS).Second I've tried Chemi-con 100uF caps and then Jamicon 100uF caps (alone and bypassed).
I must say that I don't see this Ci cap as such a bad thing, more so if you have to solve big DC offset problem.

In the Gaincard there are four caps (per channel):2 electrolitic PS caps, one film type zobel cap (the red one) and another electrolitic cap (the smaller one).There are only two possibilities for this last cap - input cap or Ci cap?
Regards;

Thanks for the listening test Igla - no, mabye a cap is not a bad thing at all - and, when my last chip arrives, I will try with and without the Ci Cap. I only use a pass preamp, that has caps in the output, so Im sure that I dont need the input DC blocking cap.

Cheers !
Buhl

I guess nobody tried Ci cap on a gainclone.

I did on the 4780 prototypes I was using.

The final implementations do not have the cap at all.

I hated the sound with the Ci, but my caps were also not so great (Rubycon light blue 100 uF 50V caps). Since I don't have access to good electros, I shy away from using them. getting a Ci in sufficient value apart from electro is difficult.
