Default Is this a good transformer for LM 3886?

Hi,

Parts Express has a 25V CT power transformer for sale:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=129-035
"This transformer is a filament transformer. The primary is rated at 115V, and the secondary is rated at 25.2V/2.0A."

I was wondering if this trafo would be a good to power LM 3886 stereo amplifier?

Alex

No it wouldn't. You really want something that is around 2x18-22V secondaries or 36 - 42V CT.

Max voltage (if you have control over the situation) is 2 x 28 V but it's more safe with 2 x 24 V, then you won't have to think and the cooling requirements gets a bit less also.

You will need two of those per channel (one per rail). The voltage is fine.

the voltage and current are fine but for 8 ohm minimum loads only.

You will need 4 for a stereo amp.. As Peter said 1 per rail per channel.

you could get away with it but as peter said you would need 2. for just a bit more than 2 of those you can get a toroid at 100VA (those are 50VA) from apexjr

http://www.apexjr.com/miscellaneous.html

look at the second avel lindburg one in red. i got some, they are nice.
they are center tap so you cant use them with dual rectifier PSU such as audiosector or chipamp.com kits unless you modify them (the transformer) i did it and it worked fine.

i would use 1 per channel, or it will be a bit underpowered. or start with 1 and upgrade when you can afford it.

Thanks guys. I will pass on this trafo then. Chipamp.com is out of stock on the kits anyway. This will give me some time to get toroidal trafo for the right price
