hi hicksy_5,

This is not a chipamp, so for more info do search for "SC480" and "ETI480" in the solid state forum. A moderator will probably move this thread for you.

This is Silicon Chip's SC480 which is a replacement for the ETI480. A full description can be found in the January and February 2003 issues.

I have built one of these and I was surprised at the performance because I wasn't expecting much from these output transitiors. It's certainly cheap and once you have built one of these you'll be right to try some of the better and more expensive amps.

You do need a power supply, a toriod, a bridge rectifier and some filter caps, plus heatsinks, a case and other miscellaneous stuff. Also look at Altronics and Jaycar which I think do a version of the amp and PSU kit, but not as cheaply.

DS does do a PSU kit.

EDIT: I just had a thought, if you are after a chipamp then a Peter Daniel or BrianGT kit (or similar) will be easier to build, cheaper and sound better IMHO, as long as you have reasonable speakers.

Here's a picture of mine, not one of my best efforts but....
