Hello.
well ive been reading quite a lot about GC's and been getting pretty into building one even though ive been travelling for 11 months so ive been waiting, looking at DIY audio at internet cafes. Im going home soon so i thought id be able to get some cheaper transformers in india. Well i went to this massive electronics market and went to a transformer place but they didnt have 22v toroidal in stock so they are making me some. Hopefully they are ready before i fly home on Saturday or im a bit screwed. i ordered 2 x 22V 200VA with single secondries. Cost about 55 us for both. Cheaper than at home in Western Australia i think. Not to mention the lack of 22V transformers. So anyway my question is... Using 1 trafo per channel, this will be suitable for 3875 or 3886 (i think) what about for 4780? Another question, when you see a transformers figures and it has dual secondries and the VA is quoted, is that the VA for each of the secondries or for both of them together (ie shared). i hope ive made a good choice. Thank you matt |

from what i have understood building my GC 2 transformers are to prefer atleast for 3875 and 3886. With 2 transformers you are less likely to get problems with hum noises.

For dual secondaries, the power rating is usually for total of the two secondaries.
This gives you the option to wire them as parallel (lower volts but more amps) or series (higher volts but less amps), but maximum power is equal either way. You can also use them for a dual polarity supply, where each polarity side would have half the total power. - Rick |
