Default Gc + Boz...

I planned on using either my non-snubberized 3875 or my snubberized 3886 in conjunction with a BOZ preamp. Some issues involving impedence between the two have caught my eye, however.

The BOZ guides I've found strongly suggest pots on the preamp output, not input. I'm not sure how to work this into the design. What value pot would you suggest? The BOZ guides say 5K is preferable, but that you can 'get away' with up to 25K with a short run to the power amp. However, it seems the power amp in mind for the BOZ was a Zen, so I have no idea how well or poorly that'd work with my 3886's or 3875's (nor do I know which would be better).

If I could have my cake and eat it, too? If anyone can tell me a good source for the pot they recommend (not afraid of stepped attenuators, either...), that'd be excellent! I really want a high quality piece for this, AND I want it on one shaft if possible (dual).

I use a BOZ with my BrianGT 3875 kits and it works quite well. I put my volume pot at the output of the BOZ. I used a no-name 10k linear pot converted to log with an added resistor. (see here )

You should be able to find a 5k dual pot from Digikey or at least a 10k linear locally you can turn into a log using the above link.

Default ...almost forgot

you may notice from reading the thread that it is also ok to hard wire resistors at the output (5k to ground) and use any suitable volume pot you like at the input. This may be a good idea anyway if your source has a full 2v or better output since it's quite possible to overload the BOZ.

My CD player has low output so it's wasn't a big deal for me.

I tried the BoZ with a 50k pot with the GC without much succes. The BoZ has quite high gain, just as the GC. With the 50k pot this meant it was way too sensitive. With the pot just slightly open the sound was already very loud. I recommend a lower value, or decrease the gain of the BoZ perhaps.
