Hey guys,
I've got a Kenwood receiver (VR-507) which doesn't have pre-outs. So I'm was hoping to open it up and just splice in some wires to get a pre-amp out signal. I went ahead and got the service manual. You can take a look at it here: http://www.scathontiphat.com/dropbox/VR-505_sm.pdf Can you help me find where to slice in preouts? thanks a bunch

THANKS!!
Now, I'm not sure if it's working properly or if my amp is shot. So I've got those lines going to a NAD 2200 amp I got for free in unknown condition. When I first turn on the amp, no sound comes out. But if I leave it on, slowly after a minute or two, the sound starts to come out. If I turn off the amp, and turn it back on again, it goes through the same process. So is my amp shot, or did I do something wrong splicing in the line outs? I have a feeling its something with the amp, since if turn off the receiver while the amp is still on. Aside from having to hear some pops when it turns on and off, everything seems to work okay. thanks again for your help

Mmmmmm... are you sure you don't have subwoofer output to be used to test the NAD? If it does exist, volume control for a subwoofer should be in the receiver, shouldn't it? Just a hint. I don't play with subwoofer for a very long time...

DUH!! Why didn't I try plugging something else in before? I plugged in my ipod directly to the amp, and had the same problem. So I guess something is up with the amp.
Time to crack it open and look around inside. I guess worse comes to worse, I yank out the transformer and power conditioning (assuming they work okay) and build a chip amp

WOW!!
What a disaster inside. Mainly on the left channel board (which is the channel that gives me the most trouble) Someone else has definitely been inside. I'm not even sure if it's worth trying to fix up. Did a two year old do the soldering?!? Lifted traces and broken pads: And what the hell is this resistor doing here, and why is there flux residue all over: ![]() I'm new to to the world of audio amps. Maybe these things are normal?!? Anyhow, looks like I'm gonna steal the transformer and make a new amp. |

Looking worse than it is, take a nailbrush and scrub off that brown resin.
