Default Bass and treble adjustment in gainclone

Hi

I would like to know is there any way to adjust the bass and treble with Gainclone amplifiers?
The reason I'm asking is because with my Yamaha amplifier the settings are at, treble-4db and bass +4db.If I switch on the direct stereo mode the sound really is creapy.

I'm worried that if I make a Gainclone amplifier (with passive pre amp)I may not be able to adjust the sound to my liking

Build one and see. You will probably forget all about tone controls once you have heard one!

You will probably need some sort of active buffer or pre-amp anyway to get the best out of your GC. If you really do need tone controls, you could incclude them in the pre-amp. Rod Elliot has some circuits on his ESP site that will show you how but I bet if you ask how many people with GC's use tone controls, there won't be much of a response!

Although I mostly agree with Nuuk (I built one of his amps with a Rod Elliot 20000uF per rail PSU) I do have one or 2 CDs which realy make me wish I had something to trim the treble.

We probably all agree with those sentiments but I have 200+ CD's, and one or two represent just 1% of my listening material. So the question is this - is it worth adding extra circuits into the system, with the degradation to sound quality that they must surely bring to 99% of your CD's, just to better enjoy the other 1%?

This is what I use. I'm young and like my music with emphasized bass and treble, so I resorted to buying the pcb and building that.

You can always ad a bypass switch to take the tone controls out of the circuit if so desired.

You apply tone controls at the feedback loop too.

This is generally not a good idea because you're changing the feedback and the bandwidth of the amplifier. This can cause it to go unstable because the dominant pole and gain are varied from the initial design. This is especially important in opamps that aren't stable all the way to unity gain (which most aren't).

The best place to apply the tone controls is in a buffered stage before the power amp. A baxandall control like was shown in a previous post is a really good choice.

Would this just be inline between the buffer and the chipamp?
