Hi there,

"High quality" is relative. But in the audiophile term, such pre is not hi-end at all. Anyone hang around this site for more than a year won't build such preamp IMO.

Try this site: http://sound.westhost.com (or search by that words) you will find very valuable projects as well as information/theories. There is a project for preamp, along with useful information to answer your question. Rod Elliot's products quality is above average IMHO.

Or may be you want to try Nelson Pass' Bride Of Zen (BOZ/BOSOZ). They are my favourite SS preamp so far.

thanks for reply

i want to build a preamp with perfect faithful gain of two so the quality is not sacrificed.r the distortion figures mentioned for it sufficent for good quality.

i know bout Mr Elliot's site.but he uses too many components that make pcb cad painful(it took a month for 12b xover lr)

boz sounds interesting.

i have made pcb for the pamp in ques,(bec reply came in too late from anyone)

will post results soon.

I am no expert on what makes an ideal preamp, but I do know the TL072 is a very very cheap op-amp. To make the circuit better use a high quality op-amp, and make sure that C4 and C5 are high quality caps(polypropelyne, polyester, etc.). I am also curious on why it had been designed to use a single supply. IMO a preamp designed to use a + and - supply would be a better choice.

A design I think you should look at is Russ White's FreeBird. It is very simple and very effective. It uses expensive op-amps but I'm sure they can be exchanged with something else if you are on a budget.

And yet there is at least one award-winning and not exactly cheap commercial preamp that uses those op amps everywhere. Audio is fun, isn't it?

To shorten your journey, bypass the opamp thing and find the discrete one.
