As a general rule of thumb, bridged amps work well for 8 ohm (or higher) loads, parallel amps work well for 4 ohm (or lower) loads, and a bridged-parallel can work great for 8 ohms or lower. "Or lower" implies you must parallel more chips to handle the increased load, but there is essentially no limit to the number that you can parallel.
