Dear All,
Any one has experience to tell, LM3868 and LM3875 is better in "HI FI" point of view (with same output) in case : Making : 1) Classic GainClone ? 2) PBA 200 Thanks Thomas |

Should be LM3886 not LM3868,right???
I havent actually hear the sounds of the both under same circumstances, which mean i havent make any AB comparison between them. But there's 1 thing for sure, driving capability of LM3886 is better than LM3875.U cant tell LM3875 to drive a nominal 4 ohms load when operating at high supply voltage. So,for me,i will use LM3875 for classic Gainclone but operate it around plus minus 18V,and for BPA200,LM3886 of course!

It depends your speaker (sensivity), type of music you listen to and size of the room.
I had listened my friend's PBA200 for some times last years, I preferred LM3875 Classic GC (25W) as more detail, clearer, better transient responses -- particularly if you have high-sensivity speakers. |

I agree, if you don't need the extra power, ie you have easy to drive speakers, the LM3875 does just edge it as regards sound.
There's a touch more 'delicacy' with the LM3875.

The 3785 is better inverted, the 3886 non. But the OPA549 inverted is better than both...

...and with the right rail voltage supply... usual living-room size... and the kind of music you play... that high-sensitivity requirement "trade-mark" for LM3875 do not always necessarily right...
My LM3875 NIGC with +/-18V AC secondary (about +/-25VDC rail) with 2x1500uF per-channel, drive 86db/4ohm Dyanudio Audience 40 with pride... (I listen to jazz, classical, acoustic, rocks... but not synthesized-house music...) Regards, --- David |
