Hi,

I am looking for a remote control pre-amp kit for Brian's Lm3886 kit.
Is this suitable or would I be better of with a active preamp?

remote 3

Look like a nice peice of kit and it has the 5 inputs i need however is is passive. Will this be a problem? Sorry new to this and the whole impedance thing has got me confused.

If this isnt suitable could any body suggest anything else kit wise

Well your asking two competely unrelated questions here and its probably why you didnt get an answer...

Active vs passive preamp. Thats a huge "subjective" debate. Both have advantages disadvantages, but both certainly work with Brian's kit.

Once you decide if you want active or passive, then you look for a volume control method. (Well this is the reasoning i would use, basing myself on sound quality is more important than convinience). Remote 3 is a good option if you choose passive and yes it will work. Im not sure if there are better deals or quality setups out there though, i never looked into it. I do remember stumbling on a DIY remote volume control on this site:

if you want to go that route (i think it was also passive).

I would say it is suitable (but I'm biased ;)), depending on your system. If the cables between your preamp and poweramp are short, a passive preamp will work fine. If you use a 10k pot the maximum output impedance will be 2.5k which isn't too bad...

The board also has solder pads for connecting an active line stage, so you could always add that later.

Da*n you're fast :D
Well, it could be 6V...
I have 15VAC goin' to the inputselectors and IR and then to the pot. Another +-12V (DC) to the input-rca's.

Since I'm going to harvest parts from it i thought that it would be a shame if i atleast didn't try to use the remoteparts to.

But thanks! :D
