Creative AUDIGY 4 PRO sound card with 113db SNR and i think this is the best preamp than any other.... like Bryston or Krell or what ever it may be....

well what is the diff between the above sound card and the Bryston or Krell pre amps... what is the quality difference..?

One difference is probably that Creative just makes up their specs. Virtually everything they make overpromises and underdelivers.

their stuff is made for a totally other target audience than high end audio. they used pmpo watt ratings on their speakers until a couple of years back, that goes to show.

Try some EMU or Lynx card for better specs and measured performance.

I am talking about the SOUND CARD not the speakers ...

their speakers are not audiophile...

well the only prob with creative EMU cards are their freq range is limited like 20Hz to 20kHz so as the

creative AUDIGY 4 PRO goes beyond the 40khz ...

actually im planning to go for the SCANSPEAK RING RADIATOR with Phase plug.....( which crosses over 100kHz) and this spec makes the SACD and DVD audio to be perfect...

so i am in search of amp which uses this 100khz range...

well CREATIVE is using the cirrus logc chips so i think they are awesome...

in AUDIGY 4 PRO cards they have used the BEST of CIRRUS LOGIC DACs...

so im expecting outstanding quality...

The first tweeter ( Ring Radiator ) but i really dont understand how is it possible to hear 100khz !!!!!!!! but what ive heard that thest tweeters give the smoothest treble ( that is what i love )

can you here specs? i dont thinks so. if there is anything that diy audio should teach you is that you cant measure musicality with a scope.

The difference between consumer and high end is the headroom.

That Audigy is likely running 1V P-P for the input and output signals while high end is much higher, sometimes >6V P-P or +18dB over 1V.

That why the +4/-10 switch on so many pro and high end units that play well with consumer equipment.

If the audigy or any other consumer product can achieve good SNR with the lower output level and the interconnects are shielded, I don't see what advantage the high output level of a highend product has.

You are right about that, I forgot the input part... But for the output, low signal isn't a problem.

It is if...

you don't have enough gain and/or output to drive your power amp properly and have to use another preamp, thereby defeating the whole 'best preamp' reasoning...

The real problem is that you can never trust their specs. If they say 113dB, I would be happy to get 103dB. And that is with a digital input.

I am not familiar with the Audigy 4, but I know earlier Audigy products used wonderful techniques like resampling everything to 48kHz (badly), digital volume control, cheap opamps, lots of electrolytic coupling caps, etc.

The card, however, outputs 2Vrms, which is a little more than 1V p-p.

Anyway, better get a EMU1212M for cheaper than this Audigy and get some solid performance (measured -117dB noise).

but the only problem with the EMU Cards are the frequency range its like 20 to 20k where as the audigy 4 pro is about 40k which is very nice to DVD AUDIO.....

actually I want to use with the SCANSPEAK Ring radiator with phase plug tweeters and im in search of such pc cards...which suit my application....

Like my expected config is

1. seven Scan speak ring radiator 7xxxxx series and Revelator 7 inch mid bass for my total 7.1 surround and with a VELODYNE DD18 for my Bass. Where as the surrounds use the Rotel RMB 1048 .>>>>8 channel amplifier what do u suggest...

I am expecting the AUDIGY 4 pro which uses the true potential of those speakers.....coz.... I need to play games, movies and music with perfect sound...
