Default My LM4780 Board

This is my much worked upon LM4780 board. Nothing earth shattering in terms of design. Basic National Tech notes with a couple layout changes.

* Multiple Panasonic FM Series caps to experiment with. Use as many as desired for the application.

* Both sides of the board are utilized to keep trace distances short.

* Slip on connectors and terminal blocks for input.

* Slow turn-on with mute via National Tech notes.

* Easy to use in parallel with resistor change & jumper

* A little more difficult to bridge but very doable.

* Compact size 3.25" x 2.5"

Nice work! I like the way you put the big electrolytics on both sides – clever!
Have you had a chance to test it yet?
Keep us posted as the chassis comes together…

The chassis I'm going to use is our Exodus Chassis. It is a standard 2U so there is plenty of room for other goodies inside the box.

I'm working on some new cosmetic design elements also.... they are going to take a couple more months but we are shooting for something that looks like this for the integrated.

And this for all the amps.

I've been running various prototypes PCBs for a several months. The current version has only had about a week of exercise but I think it's pretty solid.

I have more testing of parallel & bridged modes.

Not yet.... somewhere down the road we are going to have a product but I've got more testing and development to do. I don't like to rush these things and I'm looking for a way to sell them without tons of technical support headaches.

My ultimate goal is to have a nice active speaker design platform so I've still got some design work to do on a couple crossover boards. I'm also going to do a 6N1P gain stage for the integrated version. Something to add a little 2nd harmonic for flavor and to buffer the volume control. ;-)

On the integrated chassis it would be interesting to have an aluminum power button, to counterweght and balance the two knobs on the right side. The plastic switch you have now, somehow doesn't match the rest, which is very stylish.

Maybe something like that?

Kevin Haskins,
Good layout, first PCB art of 2005 in Chip Amps!

P.S.It would be better to put several holes for PCB stand-off

Yes... I agree and had been thinking the same thing. What is the model in your picture Peter?

Yes.... I'm thinking of putting one standoff. It doesn't really need more as the mouting to the heatsink holds it in place. Originally I was going to mount them 90 degrees from how they are shown in the picture. I decided against it and the bottom 6 electrolytic caps (there is 12,000uF total)rest against a peice of insulation on the bottom of the chassis. I use a dab of hot glue to secure it.

The one standoff would be nice though. It would have to be over 1" long due to the caps.
