I was thinking of buying two PEC carbon pots, the ones recommended by Peter Daniel, only the mono version since this are readily available at digikey for ~12 CAN.
Now i want to use them as a passive pre for my NI gainclone based on Brian's boards. So i was thinking two 25K log pots right? But then i searched the forum and fake lawing seems like an interesting alternative. I read the project01 at http://sound.westhost.com/project01.htm and was really curious. But they seem to suggest this technique is only useful with low cost/quality pots which have bad log curves and tracking. So is fake lawing the PEC carbon pot, which is of good quality, worth it? And especially since its the mono version? I would get the KU version vs the KA. And if it is, what value of pot should i use to obtain volume control similar to the 25K log pot? And of course, this is open to any suggestions on shunt resistor value/type also. I think this could be a very good sounding option for the price. |
