Hi all
Nelson Pass commented on Pg6 Oct 04 Audioxpress that valve power amps are often better with fullrange (Fostex, Lowther)
than ss in the top octave. To do with impedance and damping factor. Aren't Gainclones and solid state the same here?
Limited experience of FE204e, 206e, 167e with 3 ss amps have not been good with treble extension / bloom.
I know Fran G is enthusiastic with his combo.
Enlightenment would be welcome.

Valves have " sweet " trebles, which is good on guitar amps ( ofcourse with attack ), but combination with low input impedance SS or chip amps is problematic, 'cos in this case rise distortion. Probably better results give " medium power " ones, such as JJ's ECC 99 for example.
