finally got around to this gainclone thingy........and honestly i can say they are worth all the hype. to easy not to build one for fun.
i made a simple p2p opa549 based amp, on strip board. 2 xicon 1000uf caps (from PE) 1 22k carbon resistor from rat shack pin 1-3 1 47k metal film rat shack pin 4 to gnd 1 1k metal film rat shack pin 3 gnd 5 TI samples (opa549) 2 18v makita ni-cad drill batts *puts out 20volts at chip (i have 4 extra from burning out drills at work) i have no bypass caps on the batts, or the 1000uf at chips. no zobel, buffer, etc. and also held together and hooked up with a rats nest of alligator clips, lol.....i ran these all day while working and my co-workers just couldnt get that the amps sounded so good and i built them out of cheapo parts. the speakers i pieced together didnt help any, but the gainclone still made them sound good. i really didnt hear any bad sounds, hums, buzz, etc i am going to make a website up and post the pics, but im moving all weekend and my girl is giving birth in 2 weeks, so if i find time to do anything ill be lucky! also the case work is nice, and just as minimal as the amps parts. total for the project is well under $20.00 |
