Is this possible to do?
If I were to take a pair of MOSFETs or even a few pairs of MOSFETS, and use them on the output of a gainlcone amp, would it work? If so, would high power levels be achievable? And, if this would work, would the sound quality be good, and, most importantly, how would it all connect? Thanks to all, Mike |

It is possible. I've done similar things before and it works quite well to improve output power. There are probably quite a few schematics floating around using both MOSFETs and BJTs.
Given that you won't need much current to drive MOSFETs compared to what a chip amp can supply, it is worth connecting a low-ish value resistor from the chip output to the load, forcing the chip to supply a certain amount of current by itself, reducing crossover distortion.

Thanks
I searched but was unable to find a suitable schematic. Any ideas? And, if I build this, about how much output wattage and current would I be able to get with it? And what MOSFETS should I use? |

You might try looking in some application notes from National or other manufacturers, and op-amp datasheets (since you can usually just substitute an op-amp for a power chip amp). You might not find anything specifically with MOSFETs, but most BJT based circuits can be adapted just by increasing the bias voltage to suit.
