I just got my tanny today from Plitron. I got everything I need besides the basic kit from Brain. He said his is going to ship it tomorrow. He was waiting to send it out because he got me some stuff from digikey. I can't wait to get together!!!!
I'm putting the 225va tranny in the gainclone chassis sold in this forum. The tranny has a diameter of 4.3". How close can I count the tranny to the walls of the chassis and the circuit boards? The plitron is drilled down the center. I have a mounting kit I got from Apex Jr that has a larger washer for the top. Can I just use a bolt and rubber footing? Does the large washer serve any purpose? Thanks, Matt |

The plitrons I have do not need a large washer. the epoxy fill in the center is quite strong.
Your concern with bolting is to ensure that the bolt is not connected to the chassis at both ends. this makes a one turn transformetr winding

yup, potting is generally strong enough to forgo the top washer. I've also drilled a recess in the potting to flush mount the bolt head (and a second hole all the way through for the led winding.
I would keep the tranny as far as practically possible from the circuit boards. But then again some people experience no problems with very compact implementations as well.

I can keep the tanny about 1.75" away from the amp boards. I'm unsure about the placement of the rectifier board. Should I place it closer to the tranny and away from the amp boards? Or close to the amp boards and away from the tranny? Or split the difference?
thanks, Matt |
