Chassis Design (Pros-Cons)

Could someone explain the theories behind separate chassis for channels and power supplies? I can think of nine different possibilities for a stereo amp with either a single or dual tranny. Which of these don't make any sense and why? And which make sense and why?

1) All in one chassis single tranny | L-out <PS> R-out |

2) All in one chassis dual tranny | L-out <L-PS] [R-PS> R-out |

3) Two chassis single tranny | L-out R-out| < |PS|

4) Two chassis dual tranny | L-out <L-PS | | R-PS> R-out |

5) Two chassis dual tranny | L-out R-out | << | L-PS R-PS |

6) Three chassis single tranny | L-out | < | PS | > | R-out |

7) Three chassis dual tranny | L-out | < | L-PS R-PS | > | R-out |

8) Three chassis dual tranny | L-PS | > | L-out R-out | < | R-PS |

9) Four Chassis dual tranny | L-out | < | L-PS | | R-PS | > | R-out |

Matt, all the options will work, some better than others but what it really comes down to is practicalities like:

how much you want to spend.

whether you can hear a difference between an amp with one PSU and one per channel.

space on your hi-fi shelves.

and all sorts of other reasons that only you can decide on.

You could trawl back through the many posts on this forum that have discussed virtually all the options at one time or another.
