What is easier designing an amplifier with an IC chip or designing a solid state amplifier?

If this is correct, the chip amp would win on ease of construction of the actual amplifier circuit. But remember, the amplifier is much more than that, case, PSU, input and oputput sockets etc. So the difference between the two narrows a little but I would say if you are looking for 'easy' go with the chip amp!
