I really did search but the results were inconclusive...
I have a couple of cheap frame transofrmers from PE. These one's here...12 volt center tap When they say 12-0-12, does that mean I get 24V out? If I have two of them, how would they be wired to produce 24V. In series? Do I follow up with the BrianGT diaghram for CT transformer rectifier board construction then? Right?really |

Depends. If you put the centre tap to gnd and use two diodes from the 12V AC pins to get DC, you get 12V * sqrt of 2 is about 17VDC minus some losses. If you use the two 12VAC pins disregarding the center tap, with a bridge rectifier, you get 24V * sqrt of 2 is about (you guessed it) 34VDC minus some losses. But, in both cases, the transformer can only deliver its rated load.
