Hi all,
Is the 1.1A Schottkey diode sufficient for my gainclone project? The diode is going to be used in the rectifier bridge. Transformer rating is 200VA, 18-0-18. I could use 2 bridges, 1 for each channel if it can't handle the current in 1. I'm also thinking of running the diodes in parallel in each bridge. Is it possible? Opamp used is the LM3875. Thanks, and cheers! |

I'd say 3 amp is the absolute minimum you could use for the bridge, and even that would probably not be nearly enough. I'd shoot for at least a 5 amp rating with more being preferable..

It is the surge current rating that should be of concern. Depending on the smoothing capacitance you are using i.e more capacitance needs more surge current rating. Schottky's generally do not have as good a surge current rating. A 5A ordinary diode might have a 300A surge but the 5A schottky might only have 50A surge. The fashion for schottky's is not one I would follow.
