Hi,
I am planning to build a gainclone which should be able to drive my KEF Reference 2 speakers. These have a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms with a minimum of ~3 Ohms. So, would it be better to use 2 LM3875 in parallel or just 1 LM3886 chip? I read somewhere that the 3875 sounds better so maybe 2 of those are preferrable? Thanks in advance for any advice. |

LM3886 and 3875 are almost the same.
you wont notice the sound between them... the difference is that you have more parameters are connected legs in the 3886, the 3875 has only 6 (?) legs to operate... +/-/Gnd/Out/In+/In- and the 3886 have also 2 Vcc and Mute feature.... its ok to use this chip for 4 ohm but you need to know the output u need and the voltage to use... if u need 0-50Watts , one chip with good cooling will do. if u need more than that you will start bridging amps or try to find bigger chips (STK!!!) hope I helped

Go for two or more LM3886 in parallel. With your low impedance speaker, you need current, not voltage.
See my replay at: Can you tell me how to beef up PA100? Have fun Thomas |
