Default Chip amp good to power outdoor speakers?

Hello all,

I would like to add some outdoor speakers on my deck and am concerned about them eventually getting wet/damaged and destroying a nice amp, I have read the data sheets and see they have all kinds of fault detection builtin. Anyone got comments?

Thank you

Well, keep 'em dry.

There >are< speakers designed to be relatively
waterproof, assuming the enclosure and wiring
are equally waterproof. The National series of
chip amps have pretty good protection circuitry,
so they should tolerate low impedance and
shorted loads.

This assumes the amplifier itself is indoors and
kept in a low-humditity environment!
