Default STK-4046XI and Hello!

Hi everyone I am Chen and i'm new here..
i'm hading problem with an amplifier. and i was trying to make a new one in the same box my old amp was in.

i was trying to build the Rod Elliot amp's and it didn't work i dont know why....so i tought about building an STK based amp,
so i build the STK4042II amp and it succedded but only for few seconds, and then the chip burnt (i assume)...so i bought the
STK-4046XI chip cause the mono and the power it gives (i need the amp for a guitar)...
i built the amp using the datasheet supplied by Sanyo i think...
it didnt work...the 100ohm resistor started burning....dunno why...

please if you have any information how to create a PCB or tips
or good schematic of the STK-4046XI please, please tell me...
thanks and goodnight, Chen

Is that your chip off to the left on the green board? Is it connected to a heatsink? you need adequate heatsinking, or the chip will burn up.

this is the one who burnt off...

on 10 sec the chip can burn without heatsink?

this was the 4042 amp i made, it worked but only for 10-20 secs...

now i built the 4046XI chip i've put heatsink and everything
and its not working! i need information about this, schematics or anything i can get...thank u

i need tp ask you also....
the STK-4050V and the STK-4048XI and the ---STK-4046XI--- schematic in the datasheet are the same schematics, if someone has build one can u please contact me with these...

Morbid,

It might be possible that you are experiencing the very same problems that plauged Robert Jones in his experiences with the STK XI version amplifiers. Specifically, sometimes the expected chips are not the complementry output chips specified by the XI, but rather, quasi-complementry output chips that are mislabeled.

pmkap, thanks for your comment but as i dissamble the heatsink i saw the back-printing saying its a K4046B
(those marked B404xxxx are garbage. Those marked with K404xxxx are great - rljones) ...so i dont think its the problem with the chip...

I need the exeprience of people with the STK, i had 2 STK modules i've been already burnt off as i'm trying to study about amps and i've also build a SS amp with 2n3055/2n2955 it didnt worked out....i returned to the STK, this time i built it exectly as the datasheet mentioned. and i dont know whats the wrong with it...
i will try to get these laser-printing papers and i will try print the 4050V diagram on a print. i hope it will work...

as i read more in the forum i saw that the LM3875/LM3886 are good...and also easier to install....
do u recommend me to change to the LM?
or any other IC's? all i want is that amp to comealive

i will qoute Metal from the forum:
"I built STK4192II seven years ago when I was 16, of course did every thing as in the datasheets of sanyo. When I first switched the supplies on, without having any load connected to the outputs nor any thing connected to the inputs, I smelled that something was burning, to findout that the RC on the outputs is the problem,it was the 4.7 Ohm resistors who were burning, they were 1/4 watt .I did not pay attention to the wattage of those resistors at the first place, of course I tried higher wattage resistors ( 5 watts) and found out that they still warm up when I disconnect the speakers, so I finally abandoned them, and the amplifier found its way to a friend ."

i assume i found the trouble i put the 1/4W resistors and 16V capicators...if that can be the problem i will replace them 2morrow to check it out...!

Did you use 16V caps on the PS rails ??

You're lucky not to get injured...

You must not power the amp without a sufficient heatsink under any circumstance.

And of course, you should have used high power resistors on power rails (near the output & PS rails)...

its much easier to work with LM or OPA chips , STTKs got too many parts , with a wrong layout the chip will oscilate and may burn .
