Question Parralleling to run Martin Logans

Im thinking about getting some Martin Logans (maybe Quests or Aerius) which have an impedence range of 2-8ohms. So would it be safe to parrallel two LM3886's so that the ohms to each chip are 4-16ohms? Or maybe 3 LM3875? I'm thinking the woofer will be pretty benign, but its the panels that go hog wild.

Also I have some opa541 in a metal can. Think those might be better for this application?

EDIT: Crap I see they don't offer samples of the TO-3 anymore. Only the plastic case. I only have 2 OPA541's. Maybe they will cut me a break since I work there

Are you really sure about the 2 ohms?

towards the upper frequncies ESL's tend to dip pretty low. The Martin Logan website lists some of the new models as dipping to 1 ohm.

I just want to make sure they won't explode or anything

I've driven the Aerius I with a bridged (not paralleled) GC amp with a lm3886.

You will need to use a good heatsink, but it doesn't explode and works very well. The definitive design is using the 4780 in the same config.

It's about 6 months that those amps are working

Bye!

I think you can be quite calm because you won't put out max power at 20 kHz. I think you should look intstead of the current demand for your type of usage.

You can get out up to 11.5 A in short term which may be sufficient for you needs.

BTW: I have ML SL3 and I'm quite fond of the electrostatic sound, no party animals exactly but still does a good job.

As you know I have ML and I can tell you that 50-60 W is just on the edge if we talk power because of the speaker's rather low efficiency. This will not create rather high sound level but you are very near clipping (=bad sound). 150-300 watts is more appropiate I think. Maybe you should look at Thomas Madsens, "Das Modul"?
