Hi Fellow DIYers,
I am a complete novice at electronics. Would like to try for a gainclone, after having completed a few LED projects I live in Mumbai, India and want to know the name of a good electronics shop in Lamington Road, where I would get LM3875 or even LM1785. I tried a few shops and they dont stock it and charge close to 150 Rupees for it. It would be great help if I get the address or phone number of a good shop to get all the parts. Thanks in advance. Also I would like to know if we all get together, people from Mumbai, and order PCBs and boxes, knobs, etc , and make something standardized. I think 2U rack space will be too big a box and 1U should do it, unless you use a really big transformer. |

It will be available with Amar radio. The shop is near the bridge of Grant road station. When u come to electronics market from Grant station, u pass under the bridge. After the bridge tunnel just turn left & go towards masjid. Just before masjid Amar radio is situated. I always buy sample IC's from him. he has got many odd IC's.

Welcome to the board. Nice avtar, wipeout! As for the LM3876/3886, you can try one of these places (SP rd, b'lore). No guarantees that any of them will stock them a) Cee Pee Electronics b) Om Electronics c) Kothari Electronics d) Universal Electronics BTW, there's an Amar Radio in b'lore too, I dont know if he'd also have these ICs. I got mine the wrong way: as samples from NS. I know it's wrong... given a chance, I'd pay NS for their troubles. |

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info, will hunt for Amar Radio, next time I go there. I didnt mean to hide my identity, my real name is Ajay Lewis. I live in a suburb called Borivali in Mumbai. I am interested in electronics but was never really serious about it and gave up either after looking at complex circuits and getting disheartened The avatar is Barney from the Simpsons, Roadkill is a nice login, similar to wipeout. Thanks for the info Palesha, will hunt for Amar Radio, next time I go there. BTW RU Palesha of Palesha Audio fame? Kudos, Ajay Lewis. |

Hi Roadkill,
Thanks for your reply. I was kind of expecting your reply given your familiarity with the dungeons of audio as well as SP road. Well I had checked at Amar Radio(Bangalore) and OM electronics without any luck. I will try the others too and post back. Wipeout, Palesha is indeed Mr Mahendra Palesha of Palesha audio. You wont expect whom you run into here at this forum .Cheers. ajit |

Dear Ajit,
It was nice u were looking at Amar radio in Banglore. He is keeping all industrial stuff. He hardly deals in any consumer electronics. Also is Kothari electronics in Mumbai. He repairs multimeters. Dear wipeout, Go and get it. If u any problem let me know. It is better u go for LM 3886 because it has mute and high power. There r two version in LM 3886. One is with heatsink & one without, plastic encapsulated. Price will be Rs.130/~Rs.150/-. If more stock price low. Wish u happy DIY Mahendra palesha |

Tarun,
Ten 3886s wow good number. You may be needing the PCB/Heatsink/traffos etc etc for those monsters....how about taking us along and pointing us for the sources....or better still organising a groupbuy...At least for the PCBs groupbuy would make a lot of sense unless you have already got yours...and that preamp of yours was also cool. How does it sound ?? |
